Toonstar and Gotham Group Plan Up to 12 Animated Shows With a Digital-First Model

The Gotham Group and technology-driven animation studio Toonstar have announced a partnership to develop as many as 12 original animated series for children, combining established entertainment-development experience with a digital-first production and distribution strategy. The initiative targets platforms including YouTube.

Combining Creative Development and Production Technology

The Gotham Group brings experience in talent representation, animation development and intellectual property management. Toonstar contributes its technology-enabled animation production model and experience building entertainment for online audiences. The partnership is expected to use Toonstar's Ink & Pixel production engine and SPOT distribution platform.

Why Digital-First Animation Matters

Traditional television animation often depends on commissioning agreements, distribution partners and long production schedules. Digital-first studios can experiment with alternative release strategies, publish directly to audiences and learn from engagement. That flexibility can appeal to creators building original characters and franchises, although discoverability, monetization and quality remain significant challenges.

The Role of AI-Assisted Production

Toonstar has positioned technology as central to its production strategy, including tools intended to streamline animation workflows. The partnership reflects interest in reducing repetitive work and supporting smaller teams. The announcement does not establish that every planned series will be entirely AI-generated. Creative direction, storytelling, character design and artistic supervision remain important.

Building Original Animated Franchises

The companies have announced plans for up to 12 shows; that number is a proposed development slate, not completed productions. The partnership is worth following as individual projects, release schedules and distribution arrangements become public.
