Foundry Announces Nuke Stage for macOS, Expanding Virtual Production Access in 2027

Foundry announced macOS support for Nuke Stage on October 29, 2026, expanding its virtual production and in-camera VFX solution to Apple hardware. Early access is expected in 2027; a general-release date has not been confirmed.

Bringing Nuke Stage to Apple Hardware

The planned version will support Apple ProRes, genlock and synchronization across Mac render nodes and compatible iPhones. Genlock is essential for coordinating cameras and display systems on virtual production stages.

New Lighting and Output Mapping Tools

Foundry also announced DMX lighting controls, updated output mapping and enhanced metadata tracking, helping crews coordinate physical lighting, stage displays and post-production decisions.

Education Licensing Expands Access

A discounted education package combines one Nuke Studio license with one Nuke Stage Render node. Foundry lists annual prices of $499, £305 or €370 per collective seat, depending on currency.

Why macOS Support Matters

Additional platform support could give independent filmmakers, schools and professional studios more flexibility, although cameras, displays and lighting remain significant costs.

When Will Nuke Stage Be Available on macOS?

Foundry expects macOS early access in 2027. The existing Nuke Stage product remains available for evaluation through Foundry's trial program.

Final Thoughts

The announcement points toward more flexible virtual production workflows, with practical benefits to be assessed when macOS testing begins.
