Juul Shows How CGI Animation Is Moving Beyond the Family Market

Studio 100 Film has acquired worldwide sales rights to Juul, a 90-minute CGI feature from Belgian animation studio Fabrique Fantastique. Directed by Tom Van Gestel, the magical-realism drama is aimed at young adults and adults rather than a traditional children’s audience.

The story follows a 17-year-old circus performer whose life changes after an accident, leading to a darker and visually unusual transformation. The film is currently in production and is scheduled for delivery in Q4 2026.

CGI as a mature storytelling medium

Juul sits within a wider movement toward animated features that use CG for complex emotional and mature themes. The project suggests that visual experimentation and adult-oriented storytelling can coexist with a fully digital feature pipeline.

  • Audience: The project is explicitly aimed at young adults and adults.
  • Style: Magical realism provides room for an unusual visual language.
  • Production: The feature is currently in development for Q4 2026 delivery.

Zgian takeaway: CGI animation continues to expand beyond the family market, giving studios more room to explore mature themes and distinctive visual identities.
