Disney and Pixar’s Gatto is an original animated adventure directed by Enrico Casarosa and produced by Andrea Warren, the filmmaking team behind Luca. The story follows Nero, a black cat navigating Venice and becoming involved with Rocco, a feline mob boss.
Pixar has listed a theatrical release date of 5 March 2027. From a CG perspective, the project is notable for its combination of a highly stylised character-driven world with the visual complexity of Venice.
A demanding digital setting
Canals, architecture, water reflections, atmospheric lighting and stylised character animation all have to work together. That makes the city itself an important part of the film’s visual development.
- Water and reflections: Venice creates complex surfaces and lighting interactions.
- Architecture: Dense environments require careful modelling and composition.
- Stylised animation: Character performance must remain coherent inside a highly designed world.
Zgian takeaway: Gatto is a useful reminder that stylisation does not remove technical complexity; it changes the artistic rules that CG artists must solve.
